“ The only monster here is the gambling monster that has enslaved your mother! I call him Gamblor, and it's time to snatch your mother from his neon claws!” --Homer Simpson
Last week: 11-5. Season: 52-53-2. Lock of the week: 5-2. Missed the lock last week (the weather got me on that one), but overall my best week of the season. Can the hotness continue? Or will my picks go the way of Britney Spears? I’m putting a lot of faith in the favorites this week, more than I’d like to, but with only about half the teams having a reason to play hard, that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Home team in CAPS.
Steelers (-7.5) over RAMS
The Steelers should be looking to prove something here. After getting run on all last week, they should put a large focus on stopping Steven Jackson.
Cowboys (-10) over PANTHERS
Ditto. Cowboys aren’t gonna put up the same sorry offensive performance they did last week. As long as Romo’s thumb is functional they should blow this one out of the water. The Panthers will need 5 or 6 Jessica Simpson’s in the stands to pull this out.
Browns (-3) over BENGALS
I wanted all season to believe the Bengals were a solid team, a great offense with a bad defense. Then they turn around and score only 13 points on the 49ers. It’s about time to fire Marvin Lewis, the supposed defensive guru has had ample time to try to turn around the Bungles D, and they have not improved at all.
Packers (-8) over BEARS
Only the drunken neck-beard that is Kyle Orton can make fans wish Rex Grossman was their QB.
COLTS (-7) over Texans
The Colts need a big win at home. Week 5 was the last time that they blew someone out in Indy. They should be looking to change that this week.
LIONS (-4.5) over Chiefs
Nothing to end a 6 game losing streak like having Kansas City come to town with their streak of 7 straight losses. Someone’s gotta win! Whose streak will come to an end?!?! At one point the Lions were good at home, the Chiefs were never good on the road.
Dolphins (+22) over PATRIOTS
This time I’ll go against the Patriots. I wish the Dolphins hadn’t won last week to have 0-14 going up against 14-0. Oh well. Pats will win easy, but not by 22.
BILLS (+2.5) over Giants
The Giants looked like the Giants of Decembers past last Sunday night. Will the trend continue? I say yes.
JAGUARS (-13) over Raiders
No Jaguars were named to the Pro Bowl. Expect David Garrard, Fred Taylor, and half the defense to try to prove why that was stupid.
SAINTS (-3.5) over Eagles
The Saints have a lot more to play for than the Eagles do, plus they are home in the dome. If the Eagles lose, look for a heavy cry for Kevin Kolb from Philly fans next week.
CARDINALS (-10) over Falcons
Ten points is way too many to give the Cardinals. However, the Falcons seem to have completely given up on their season. They passed for 34 yards last week. 34 yards! Total!
SEAHAWKS (-10) over Ravens
The Seahawks are the same story every year, 6-1 at home, 3-4 on the road. This week they are at home, this week they will be good.
Jets (+8.5) over TITANS
The Titans usually play close games. I see them winning, but by less than a score. By the way, Vince Young has thrown 16 ints this season so far to only 9 tds. At some point will people start saying the Titans are winning in spite of Young instead of because of him?
Buccaneers (-6.5) over 49ERS
There is NO WAY the 49ers can put two weeks of respectable football together in a row.
VIKINGS (-6.5) over Redskins
It’s the best QB battle of the season! This is essentially a playoff game for both teams. If you notice the picks and subsequent results of the last two Redskins games I picked, then you might understand this one.
CHARGERS (-8.5) over Broncos
What did I say last week? Denver is bad on the road. They lose to bad teams by a lot on the road. Against a suddenly hot Chargers team, forget about it. Lock of the week.
