by Robbie Gillies

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

Date: Jan 2, 8pm
Site: Glendale, AZ
Stadium: University Of Phoenix Stadium

Teams: #11 West Virginia Mountaineers (10-2) vs. #3 Oklahoma Sooners (11-2)

Betting Line: Oklahoma is favored by 7.5 points.

Brief History: The Fiesta Bowl was originally created by the WAC to give their teams a chance to compete in a bowl. But, in 1986 the Fiesta Bowl hosted the de facto national championship. With the four major bowl games having contracts with the major conferences, the Fiesta Bowl was able to host Miami and Penn State. Penn State won 14-10 and the game drew the largest TV audience of any game in the history of college football. The Fiesta Bowl was also the site of the best college football game last season: Boise State's victory over Oklahoma.

Fun Fact: The University Of Phoenix Stadium will also be hosting the Super Bowl on February 3rd. OK, that wasn't very fun - how bout this - 225 million pounds of Tostitos are consumed each year in the US.

Notable Schwag for the Players: Vizio 20-inch LCD HD TV

Preview: This could be a high scoring affair. The Sooners averaged 43.8 points per game and the Mountaineers average just under 40 points per game.

The Sooners have a very balanced attack, averaging over 190 yards on the ground and almost 260 yards through the air. They are led by redshirt freshman QB Sam Bradford. Bradford was the nation's most efficient passer and set an NCAA freshman record with 34 touchdowns.

The Mountaineers were fourth best in running the ball, averaging 292.9 yards per game. But, they only averaged 157.6 passing yards. They run the ball with QB Pat White and RB Steve Slaton. Both went over 1,000 rushing yards this season and are two of the quickest players in college football. How will West Virginia respond after their head coach, Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan?
