NHL Playoff Preview: Penguins vs. Senators

by Jeff Briggs

Since I, nor most anyone I know follows hockey religiously I asked someone who does to take a look at the upcoming hockey playoffs. For this I turned to my roommate John, who not only follows hockey, but may be the only person alive who subscribes to the NHL Center Ice package.

#2 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. #7 Ottawa Senators
(Season Series – Ottawa Leads 3-0-1)

The Penguins can’t be happy about losing to the Flyers the last game of the season and having to play Ottawa rather then the Flyers…or are they? Many speculate if the Penguins played a lackluster final game of the season to draw the Senators rather then the Flyers. Will karma come to play in this series? After the first 2 months of the season the Sens were considered one of the best in the league. Finishing the stretch run with only 2 wins in 10 games, the Senators have fallen backwards into the playoffs and might not have made it if the regular season had gone another week. With both Daniel Alfredsson and Mike Fisher on the shelf, the Pens seem to be too skilled for the depleted Sens. With Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin making their 2nd playoff appearance in as many years, it seems likely that party will continue into the second round. However, if Alfredsson comes back, that could be the kind of boost the Sens need to turn their season around at just the right time.

Prediction:

Penguins in 7 games
