Catching Up with Obama in the Sports Blogosphere

It was a very busy weekend for Barack Obama, the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party in this year's presidential election. Huh? Oh, no, I don't mean in a "political sense" -- he probably made some speeches, I'm not sure. But I do know that he was quite the hot topic in the world of sports blogs.

On Saturday, Bengals WR Chad Johnson participated in the team's final day of minicamp. When reached for comment afterward, Johnson had only one thing to say: “Vote for Obama.” Finally, the celebrity endorsement that Obama was surely anxiously awaiting.

It's a good thing, too, because he probably shouldn't expect too many votes from Eagles fans after what he said on Sunday, responding to how he'd counter Republican attacks:

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said at a Philadelphia fundraiser Friday night. “Because from what I understand folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”

For any voters he may have lost with his Eagles comment, he most likely quickly won over every sports fan (if he hadn't already) when he went on Jimmy Kimmel Live and announced that if elected to the White House, he'd be getting rid of the bowling alley.

"I hear there's a bowling alley and obviously that hasn't gone too well," Obama told comic Jimmy Kimmel in a satellite interview from Philadelphia on Sunday. "So we're getting rid of the bowling alley and replacing it with a basketball court in the White House."
