Meant to get to this yesterday (a crashed hard drive got in the way of that), but hey -- how 'bout this Jay Bruce kid?
In case you've missed the last week in baseball, Bruce, a call-up on the Reds, is in the midst of what might very well be one of the best Major League debuts, like, ever (it was obviously only a matter of time before the "Jay Bruce Facts" appeared).
In his first game, on May 27, Bruce reached base safely in all five plate appearances and was 3-3 with two runs and a double. Since then, he has somehow managed to top himself, game after game, including a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th on Saturday.
In seven games, he's hitting .577 (15-26) and slugging 1.038 (!). He's hit a home run in the past three consecutive games. In 26 at-bats, he's struck out exactly one time. When Jay Bruce does a push-up, he isn’t lifting himself up, he’s pushing the Earth down. Whoops, sorry, got carried away there, but I think you got the idea.
At this rate, Bruce might reach 600 homers before Griffey.
