Welcome to the final day of Euro 2008 group play. Today it's Group D, Greece against Spain and Russia versus Sweden. Since Spain has already clinched the group, we'll focus on the Russia-Sweden match - Russia needs a win to advance, while the Swedes can advance with wither either a win or draw.

------
4:38pm - That's it for today. Check our Video Log later for a shot of Russia's second goal. See you all back here tomorrow for the start of the quarterfinals with an epic match: Portugal and Germany.

4:36pm - And it's all over here, and Russia has finalized the 2-0 win. We've just switched over the Greece-Spain match, where the Spanish have just clinched a 2-1 victory. Embarrassing performance for Greece in Euro 2008 - the defending champions were just beat by what was basically the Spanish B-squad.

4:32pm - Extra time now, which means the Swedes are almost out of their misery. Save for a 10-minute stretch late in the first-half, Russia has absolutely dominated this match.

4:21pm - Not sure how Russia didn't add a third goal there. The first shot bounded off the far post, and then it was headed back-and-forth a few times by the Russians, right in front of the goal line. The Swedes manage to escape what would have put this match well out of reach. Although, trailing 2-0 in the 81st, it might already be too late.

4:12pm - It might be time to look ahead to the quarterfinal matches, which begin tomorrow. All games are at 2:45pm EST.

Thursday, Portugal v Germany
Friday, Croatia v Turkey
Saturday, Netherlands v Runner-up D Russia (sorry if I just jinxed you, Russians)
>Sunday, Spain v Italy

My somewhat-uneducated predictions: Germany, Croatia, Netherlands and Spain. Then Germany and Netherlands in the finals, with the Dutch winning Euro 2008. It's hard to NOT pick the team that's averaging three goals per game.

4:10pm - Just a little more than 20 minutes left in the match here -- things are not looking good for Sweden.

4:09pm - Correction, in the the other match, Spain and Greece are now tied, 1-1. But, the result of that contest has no impact on anything, really.

4:03pm - In the other match, Greece still leads Spain, 1-0.

4:02pm - Video of Russia's second score soon to come.

3:57pm - The Swedes must be disappointed with their performance today - a must-have game, and they have let the Russians out-play them from the beginning.

3:51pm - GOAL! Russia may have just put this match away and secure themselves a spot in the quarterfinals with their second goal for a 2-0 lead. A counter attack issued by the Russians, finished with a sliding tap-in from Arshavin. Great centering pass from Zhirkov.

3:48pm - We're back underway here in the second half, and Sweden has 45 minutes remaining to find at least the equalizer if they hope to advance.

3:43pm - Still at the half here, in both matches. In the meantime, here's video of Russia's goal.

3:32pm - And that's the whistle. At the half, Russia leads, 1-0. Over in the other game, Greece is up on Russia, also by a 1-0 score. Charisteas headed-in a free-kick in the 42nd minute for the slim advantage.

3:31pm - We're in extra time now, which is bad news for Sweden -- they've finally started playing.

3:28pm - Corner for Sweden, but it's quickly turned away by Russia.

3:20pm - Great play there from the Swedish keeper, Isaksson, who was able to palm away the sharp rebound that came flying of the right post. The Swedish defense is being abused so far in the first half.

3:08pm - GOAL! And just like that, Russia leads, 1-0! I don't want to say "I told ya so," but...well, I told ya so. Great ball movement by the Russians, as seemingly half the team touched it on the attack, finished by Pavluchenko in the 24th minute, who one-timed it in from the center of the box.

3:06pm - With the way the Russians are playing, it's only a matter of time before they have a goal to show for their efforts.

3:03pm - The Russians have been in control of this match early on, and just earned another corner.

2:59pm - Good chance there for the Russians, but a hard-bouncing cross through the box flies through untouched.

2:53pm - We're almost 10 minutes in, and it's been rather uninspired play thus far, so let's catch you up on each side's Euro 2008 up until this point.

Sweden is 1-1, with a 2-0 win over defending-champion Greece and a last-minute loss to Spain, 2-1. The Russians are also 1-1, after getting thrashed by Spain, 4-1, and then blanking the Greeks, 1-0.

2:49pm - And we're underway, already in the 5th minute as Russia takes their first corner of the match.

2:44pm - Good afternoon, and welcome back to the live blog! Today, it's Russia and Sweden, with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.
