| Four Holes Remain, and It's All-Square (UPDATED) »
June 16, 2008
by Ryan Hudson
Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate just made the turn in their 18-hole playoff for the title of 2008 U.S. Open Champion, and Tiger has a two-stroke lead as they start the back-nine. Rocco just missed a short putt to stay within one as he bogeyed 9.
Rocco opened with a bogey on the first hole, whereas Tiger actually made par, something he had struggled to do all weekend. On 3, Rocco birdied, after nearly sinking a hole-in-one, and Tiger bogeyed, to give the long-shot a slim one-stroke advantage.
The players were again tied at +1 after five holes, thanks to Rocco's bogey on the par-4 5th. Tiger earned back-to-back birdies on 6 and 7, but then lost a stroke with a bogey on 8.
Tiger's knee seems to be hanging-on, but perhaps more surprisingly, so is Rocco.
