What To Watch: Weekend Edition

by Robbie Gillies

7pm - ESPN - College World Series: LSU vs. UNC - This game was suspended last night with the Tar Heels up 2-0. Play will resume and the winner will face Fresno State tomorrow night.

Non-sports pick - 12:30am - CBS - The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson - Since Jason Bateman didn't announce anything about the Arrested Development movie, maybe Jeffrey Tambor will. Or maybe he's just hocking Hellboy II.

2pm - ESPN - College World Series: Georgia v. Stanford - The Bulldogs (43-23-1) were slated to play the Cardinal (41-23-2) Friday, but rain forced a postponement. For Georgia, it will mark its fourth straight off day following its win over Stanford 4-3 on Monday. The Bulldogs are 2-0 in their bracket while the Cardinal eliminated top-ranked Miami on Wednesday. Georgia needs to win one more game to advance to the national championship best-of-three game series, which will still begin Monday. Meanwhile, the Cardinal would need to defeat Georgia on Saturday and Sunday to win the bracket.

2:30pm - ABC - Euro 2008: Netherlands v. Russia - The Dutch have been the top team in Euro 2008 so far, winning all three games in group play and scoring nine goals, while allowing just one. Russia is still a very young team, probably playing above their expectations at this point. The winner moves on to face the Spain-Italy victor.

3:30pm - FOX - MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at Boston Red Sox - A rematch of the 2004 World Series, which of course, the Red Sox won. Check local listings, your game may be different. (UPDATE: This game will be seen in the following markets - Albuquerque, Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Birmingham, Boston, Buffalo, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Fort Myers, Greensboro, Greenville, Hartford, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Knoxville, Las Vegas, Louisville, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Norfolk, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Providence, Raleigh, Richmond, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, Tulsa, Washington, West Palm Beach.)

7pm - ESPN2 - College World Series: Fresno St. vs. LSU/UNC - The Bulldogs will face the winner of Friday night's LSU-UNC game, postponed from Thursday due to rain. Fresno State leads Bracket 2 with a 2-0 record. LSU and North Carolina are 1-1 in the double-elimination format.

Non-sports pick - 8:00pm - Comedy Central - National Lampoon's Van Wilder - For being such a funny guy, Ryan Reynolds has been in some pretty low-end movies. Worst agent in Hollywood?

2:30pm - ESPN - Euro 2008: Spain v. Italy - Two of the best teams in the world square-off in the quarterfinals. Spain has been one of the top teams in this tournament so far, while Italy struggled just to advance past the group stage. The winner plays either Netherlands or Russia.

3pm - CBS - PGA Golf: Travelers Championship, 4th Round - First post-Tiger tournament. Will anyone watch?

7pm - NBC - US Olympic Trials: Women's Gymnastics - Start getting excited for the Olympics this summer. Less than two months away now

8pm - ESPN - MLB: Chicago White Sox at Chicago Cubs - This is as good an argument you'll get for interleague play in baseball.

Non-sports pick - 8pm - History Channel: Ice Road Truckers - You couldn't pay me enough to do this job -- driving semi-trucks over a frozen lake in the middle of Canada? No thanks.
