Well, this is one way to make your debut as the manager of the New York Mets. In his very first game -- after the first at-bat -- new coach Jerry Manuel had a confrontation with Jose Reyes.
Reyes felt some tightness in his left hamstring and, conceivably wanting to protect one of the faces of his new team, Manuel wanted to have Reyes sit-out the rest of the game. The shortstop disagreed with that opinion. That's when Manuel got gangsta on him.
"I told him next time he does that I'm going to get my blade out and cut him. I'm a gangster. You go gangster on me, I'm going to have to get you. You do that again, I'm going to cut you right on the field."
Reyes eventually headed for the showers, and shortly afterward apologized to Manuel for the well-intentioned insubordination.
Not only did Manuel threaten to cut his All-Star shortstop, but then he made it so Reyes had to apologize to him!
That is the very definition of gangsta.
