The three-team deal finally went down, but not the one everyone was discussing all day.
Manny Ramirez has been traded to the Dodgers (where he'll be playing for Joe Torre - interesting). Here's the particulars:
Jason Bay is headed to Boston as part of the deal, SI.com has learned. Pittsburgh gets pitcher Craig Hansen and outfielder Brandon Moss, both from Boston, as well as third baseman Andy LaRoche and right-handed pitcher Bryan Morris from the Dodgers.
So, the Red Sox gave up Manny, Hansen (a former No. 1 pick who, although struggles at times, throws in the upper-90's and has what Orel Hershiser has described as the best slider he's ever seen), and Moss (a 24-year old reserve outfielder), AND they are going to pay the $7 million remaining on Ramirez's $20 million salary for this year. If that doesn't tell you how amazingly desperate the Sox were to get rid of Manny, nothing will.
