"I Shop So Much, I Can Speak Italian"

by Robbie Gillies

Kobe Bryant has now jumped on board as the latest superstar to say they would play in Europe for an obscene amount of money. When Boston Globe reporter Marc Spears asked Kobe if he would take a deal similar to what LeBron James has said he'd consider, Bryant replied:

I’d go. I’d probably go. Like Milan or something like that, where I grew up…Do you know any reasonable person that would turn down 50 (million dollars)?

Bryant lived in Italy as a child for seven years, when his dad played played basketball there, and he can speak Italian and still has friends over there, AND he owns 50% of the Italian team, Olimpia Milano. Sounds like this has a little more credibility than King James' talk of jumping.

But, is this really that big of a story? As Kobe says, "Do you know any reasonable person that would turn down 50 (million dollars)?" The bigger story would be if an NBA superstar came out and said they wouldn't leave the NBA and the United States, for any amount of money. Someone should cash in on that great PR move.

Still, I think the bigger story is that it was The Boston Globe that broke the story. Hey Plaschke, get to work!
