For the third week in a row, Lane Kiffin is expected to be fired by Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders. But this time apparently it's for real. Reports out of Oakland are saying that Davis is already interviewing offensive coordinator Greg Knapp, offensive line coach Tom Cable and advance scout Paul Hackett as possible replacements for Kiffin.
Raiders coach Lane Kiffin said Monday that he is through commenting publicly on his conversations with managing general partner Al Davis. That no longer matters, given Davis intends to fire Kiffin by Tuesday morning, at the latest.
It's been long-rumored
, so as this point it won't be a surprise. Assuming he is in fact canned today, Kiffin will become the youngest coach in modern history to be dismissed, just 20 months after he was the youngest coach ever to be hired by an NFL franchise.
UPDATE: ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that "Kiffin was fired by Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis without pay via the telephone, according to team sources."
