The RCS NBA Power Ranking Averages combine eight* other sites' power rankings to make the most balanced and unbiased grade possible, and to offer the most accurate look at the state of the NBA on a weekly basis.
The defending champions Boston Celtics return their entire starting roster and claim the unanimous top spot in the first RCS NBA Power Ranking Averages of the 2008-09 season. The runner-ups, the Los Angeles Lakers, are the unanimous #2 team in the rankings. Both the Celtics and the Lakers will play tomorrow night as the NBA season tips off.
Comparing the conferences, the Western Conference dominates both the top and bottom of the rankings, holding four of the top six spots, as well as four of the bottom six. We will find out if this stays true throughout the season as teams move up and down over the coming months.
*Only 6 of the 8 sites had preseason rankings; once the season begins, the RCS NBA Power Ranking Averages will incorporate all the sites’ rankings.
