The RCS NBA Power Ranking Averages combine eight* other sites' power rankings to make the most balanced and unbiased grade possible, and to offer the most accurate look at the state of the NBA on a weekly basis.
One week into the NBA season, the LA Lakers are the new No. 1 team in the RCS NBA Power Ranking Averages, and ranked first in 5 of the 6 rankings averaged by RCS.
After the opening week of play, three new teams have entered into the top-ten. The Raptors moved from 14th to 7th, the Suns from 12th to 8th, and the Hawks from 16th into a tie for 9th. The three teams falling out of the top-ten this week are the Spurs (5th to 14th), the 76ers (9th to 13th), and the Magic (10th to 12th).
The rankings have fluctuated significantly from the preseason edition to the Week 1 rankings. As mentioned above, the Spurs fell nine spots this week, but that was not the largest drop, as the Clippers fell ten spots from 18th to 28th. Another team plummeting significantly this week was the Wizards (17th to 24th).
The teams moving up the most spots in the rankings this week were the Hawks, Raptors, and the Nets (28th to 21st).
The bottom and top of the rankings continue to be dominated by the Western Conference, who hold the top three spots, as well as the bottom five.
*CBS and Covers have yet to publish updated rankings, so only six sites were used for this weeks rankings.
