What to Watch: Monday

by Robbie Gillies

1pm ET - ESPN – MLB: Mets @ Reds - How are both of the New York teams opening the season on the road when they have new stadiums?

4pm - ESPN – MLB: Yankees @ Orioles - This might be the last day the Orioles are in first place in the AL East, until they call up Matt Weiters and he carries them to the World Series, of course.

7pm - ESPN2 – MLB: Cubs @ Astros - Zambrano faces the team he threw a no-hitter against last year.

7pm - Versus – NHL: Red Wings @ Sabres - With just four games left, the Sabres will need to make quite a push to get in the playoffs. They're currently four points behind the Rangers.

9pm - ESPN – MLB: A's @ Angels - The Angels are looking for their fifth division crown in six years...and then to bow out of the playoffs early.

9pm - CBS – NCAA Championship Game: North Carolina vs. Michigan State - If Michigan State can stay in the game, this could be one of the greatest crowd atmospheres ever.

Non-sports pick - Nope. Not today - In a Wall Street Journal article today, Darren Everson writes:

If there's ever a Monday in sports when it makes more sense to look forward than back, this is the one. With Opening Day sharing a spot on the calendar with the men's NCAA basketball final, this is one of the high holidays for American sports fans -- a beginning and an end at once.
And thus you don't need a non-sports pick.
