Everyone's favorite sweatpantsed wide receiver, Plaxico Burress, is headed to jail. Burress pleaded guilty today to a weapons charge as part of a deal that gives him a two-year prison sentence for accidentally shooting himself in the leg in a New York City nightclub last year.
It was thought he might plead not-guilty, and try to fight it in court, but that could have meant a 3 1/2 year sentence, and, as Dashiell Bennett points out at Deadspin, "...there was pretty much no way to convince a jury that he did not shoot himself in the leg with an illegal hand gun." So the two-year deal was really his best option.
It could be reduced to 20 months for good behavior.
