Sunday Paper (Year 2, Volume LI)
I know it's been a while since I've written extensively about the Mets.
There just hasn't been much exciting worth writing about.
And then there's this:
I've written before about my Mets boycott right now. The boycott has nothing to do with the lack of Mets posts...it's only about me not spending money.
I will not spend a dime on this team until I see some progress away from laughingstock and towards legitimate contender.
I thought we were making progress with the addition of Sandy Alderson...but this is certainly a setback.
(I will say, though, that if Sandy Alderson personally calls me to beg me back, boycott's over.)
*Jets-Steelers in Pittsburgh at 4. The city of Pittsburgh is like a graveyard for many a Jets season. This game will tell us whether we're dealing with the Same Old Jets or the Same Old Jets.
*Sal Alosi should not have tripped the Dolphins gunner. We've been through that (see: Same Old Jets Part I). But now this whole thing about forming walls and who knows what about that tactic within the team - it's all getting a little overblown. For other teams to be pointing fingers and laying blame...I'd love to see video cameras on every sideline around the league and see what's happening along those sidelines. Maybe no one else employs a 'wall' tactic - but in such a high-stakes copycat league where teams look to take advantage in every way possible, I have a hard time believing the Jets are the only team that does it.
*The bowl games kicked off Saturday with three games. 35 of them over the next few weeks. And I've got them ranked 1 through 35 for the annual bowl pool...it's one of my favorite times of the year. (Read: I haven't yet lost a key game.)
*Am I missing something with Donovan McNabb?
*Another Sports Illustrated 'Year in Sports Media' issue overlooks me. Someday...someday. Justin at Sports Crackle Pop! reviews the '200 Miles From The Citi'-less issue here...in NSFW fashion.
*And Justin also takes on the Penguins-Capitals '24/7' episodes in his 'Hard Knocks' review style. I no longer have HBO (it was just for 'Hard Knocks' that I did) so I didn't see the first episode, but by Justin's account as well as others, Bruce Boudreau's language would make Rex Ryan blush. Haven't heard one criticism of that...just another instance of Rex Ryan doing what just about everyone else in sports does, but facing way more scrutiny for it.
*I have a confession unrelated to sports. I DVRed the first week of Conan's new show on TBS. I was really looking forward to it - totally on his side in the Conan-Leno dispute. Watched the first two shows, and they weren't all that funny. Stopped watching. I know I should give it more of a shot...but my time is valuable. Someone do me a favor and let me know if it's worth watching. I used to think Conan was hilarious - I can't imagine he's not anymore. But I'm kind of tired of him.
*The above doesn't mean I don't still strongly dislike Jay Leno. Just no late-night TV for me.
*It stinks that Aaron Rodgers won't be playing against the Patriots Sunday night. But it's the right move for him. And kudos to Donald Driver, who I read this week helped convince Rodgers not to return to last week's game after he suffered the blow to the head. Good for him.
