Mets Madness Roundup

It's either a good thing or a bad thing that The New Yorker article came out on a Mets off day.

On the one hand, it got a lot of attention because there was no actual baseball to distract from the story.

On the other, the players weren't fully available for comment.  A couple shared their thoughts, but it's not like there was post-game media availability.

But there's been a lot of day-after reaction.

So here, to whet your appetite until tonight's Mets game when there is sure to be more coverage of the mess Fred Wilpon created, are some of the stories from the day after the release of the article.

We'll start with the most recent update.  Apparently Fred Wilpon's media tour took him to Sports Illustrated as well.  He'll be in this week's issue saying that the Mets are 'bleeding cash', and that the Madoff lawsuit might end up costing him the team.  Here's the ESPN version of the story - there's also a Daily News version.

I mentioned some players did weigh in on Wilpon's comments yesterday.  Here's an article featuring those quotes, including Mike Pelfrey's classic that next spring perhaps Wilpon should also attend the team's media workshop: Click here for that New York Times article.

And this is a pretty good editorial by Harvey Araton of the Times, about the accountability Wilpon didn't take in any of his quotes (save admitting he was the 'schmuck' who signed Beltran).

No one asked, but I'm sure you're wondering - why didn't John credit the picture he used yesterday and today as he wrote about Wilpon?  Well, I don't have to - it's my picture.  That's Wilpon in 2009, outside the Citi Field opener.  I snapped it outside the main entrance as he shook hands with Mike Lupica.  I like when I can use my own work - makes me feel like I'm running a real operation over here.

You know, a real operation.  Unlike the Mets right about now.
