Many potential giants have fallen throughout the years in the NBA.
After missing his entire rookie campaign and sustaining a few nagging injuries last season, the Portland Trailblazers' Greg Oden appeared destined down that descending path.
Before the tip-off of the 2009-2010 NBA season, most discussions around the league centered on big fellas like Shaquille O'Neal and the Cavaliers, Kevin Garnett and the Celtics, and Dwight Howard and the Magic.
Sure it's still early in the season, but the biggest talk of the league so far has been the young Blazers (11-5) and in particular a healthy 7-foot, 285-pound Oden, the No. 1 selection in the 2007 NBA Draft.
After Portland's 122-98 shellacking of the Bulls and Oden's play on Monday, the word's apparently spreading rapidly from sports talk shows to barbershops to the Internet.
Oden and Portland may have been slighted before the start of the year, but it looks like they're getting their proper due now.
