Sixers stay strong, hold off Cavs

hickson.jpgThe Philadelphia 76ers are as hot as any squad in the league right now.

After holding off the Cleveland Cavaliers, 95-91, last night at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, the Sixers (30-29) have won four straight. They won nine out of their 12 games in the month of February and now sit only one game behind the New York Knicks for the No. 6 seed in the East.

On any given night, any given Sixer can step up for first-year head coach Doug Collins. On Sunday evening, it was veteran Elton Brand who led things, scoring 16 points and pulling down eight rebounds. The streaky Lou Williams came off the bench to also put in 16 for Philly.

The Cavs (11-48), who beat the new look-New York Knicks Friday night, were paced by J.J. Hickson who had 22 points and 16 rebounds in defeat.

Next game: At home against the Dallas Mavericks (41-16) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
