That wonderful throwback orange brought hope and then victory last Sunday for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It brought them a 38-28 come-from-behind victory that was thrilling at the least and hopeful at best.
"Wear the orange again," said former Buccaneer assistant Wayne Fontes, who head-coached the Detroit Lions to their last playoff appearance.
"Bring back the orange again this season," was the sentiment echoed by thousands of Buccaneer fans after they saw rookie quarterback Josh Freeman dazzle them in his first-ever start.
Bring back the orange.
Great idea, but it won't happen.
The Buccaneers applied to the NFL power-that-be to wear the throwback unis one time this season. To wear them again, they'd have to petition the league and they announced on Tuesday that they won't do that.
So away go the orange jerseys into storage. Can't and won't use them again until next year.
And that's a shame.
