Cats' Training Camp To Remain In Spartanburg

The Panthers will continue to hold their annual training camp at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, according to a report in today's Charlotte Observer.

The report includes the following comments on the subject by Carolina team president Mark Richardson: "Our training camp in Spartanburg is very well operated and it's the right combination of being far enough away, yet close enough to home. We look forward to continuing to train there."

The team's decision to continue training in Spartanburg is not surprising as Wofford and Spartanburg do a great job of hosting the training camp for the Panthers, and the ongoing relationship between the parties is mutually beneficial, with the Panthers' presence generating between $800,000 and $1million annually for Spartanburg County, according to Laura Corbin of Team Spartanburg Sports Council, the sports marketing wing of the Spartanburg Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The Panthers have become very popular in the Spartanburg area, with thousands of fans attending practice each week, and 5,000 in attendance at Monday night's "Panther Party 2009" fan bash.

Congratulations to Spartanburg and Wofford on keeping the Cats in town!
