2010 Chicago Bears - Super Bowl Contenders or 2009 Redskins?

Taylor-Peppers-manumaleuna.jpgDa Bears! It has been a while since the Windy City has had any swagger when it comes to their football team; they have not made the playoffs since their 2006 Super Bowl appearance.

Things may begin improving with the opening of free agency and the Bears making a few big moves.

The biggest move was signing 30-year-old DE Julius Peppers to a six-year $91.5 million dollar deal with over $40 million guaranteed.

They also signed RB Chester Taylor to a four-year deal worth $12.5 million. The two good things are that the contract is front-loaded with $7 million in the first year (Taylor is going to be 31-years-old) and Taylor has only 1,028 career carries (a light amount for an older back).

Finally, the Bears signed TE Brandon Manumaleuna to a five-year deal. Combine the fact that MLB Brian Urlacher missed all but the opening game of 2009 and the Bears are going to be bringing a lot more swagger to their 2009 season, coming off a 7-9 campaign that has put head coach Lovie Smith's job on the line. If they do not make the playoffs, there could be changes from the top down for 2011.

I personally think these moves are going to be in vain...

Find out why...
