Fantasy Baseball Week 1 Start/Sit

matt garza.jpgCan you believe it? Opening Day is finally on its way, and the arrival of the Fantasy Baseball in-season articles is here!  Each-and-every week, one of the first columns to note will be the Starts/Sits. 

Here, we will analyze five players to start and five players to let ride the bench. We will be separating them into five categories: Starting Pitcher, Hitter, Reliever, Youngster, and a Bonus player. This way, we here at can completely fill your fantasy baseball needs. Without further ado, let's get to the official Week 1 Starts/Sits.



Starting Pitcher to Start:

Many people believe that, once again, it will primarily be a two-team race for the AL East Crown come October.  The Yankees and Red Sox are almost sure to prevail, right?  Don't tell Rays' starter Matt Garza that.  So far this Spring, Garza is 1-1 with a 2.78 ERA, an opponent's BA of .217 and a WHIP of 0.97.  Now comes the best part.  Looking forward to Opening Day and beyond, Mr. Garza appears to have a simple road ahead for all you fantasy owners out there.  Here's a hint:  He has the chance to kill two "birds" with one stone.  For all of you who didn't catch it, here's what the Rays' schedule looks like for the first week of the season. 

The team begins a three-game series on Opening Day, at home, against the Baltimore Orioles.  They then go on to face the Yanks for another trio of matchups, then what-do-ya-know, back to Baltimore  for another three.  With Garza being slated as the number two in the Tampa rotation, one thing is certain:  He will be facing the Orioles not once, but twice in Week 1.  So for all you fantasy owners out there, take advantage.  It looks to be a good week for one of your starters...
