I don't know what it is about the month of May, but after a dismal month of April, several hitters have begun to heat it up as summer speeds towards us.
Here, we will analyze five players to start and five players to let ride the bench. We will be separating them into five categories: Starting Pitcher, Hitter, Reliever, Youngster and a Bonus player.
Starting Pitcher to Start:
I'll admit it. I'm not sure why the Orioles are so horrible. Before the season even began, they had one of the better young outfields in baseball, a starting rotation with potential, and a lineup that looked improved over last season. With all of this, though, they have managed to get 10 wins by mid-May. You read that correctly. Ten wins by mid-May.
Want to know something else? Young starter Brad Bergesen has three of them in his last three starts. After having an extremely disappointing start to the year (to the point where he was sent down to Triple-A Norfolk), Bergesen is back and better than ever. In those three straight wins, the young Bird has allowed just one run in his last 14 1/3 innings, and he shows no signs of slowing down. To top it all off, his next start comes up against the Kansas City Royals, so it wouldn't surprise me if BB won his fourth in a row for you in Week Seven....
