Fantasy Baseball's Week Nine Waiver Wire
Week Eight's waiver wire pitchers both did extremely well. John
Ely went six strong innings, allowing two runs, and received
the victory. Doug Fister went eight innings and allowed
three runs against Toronto.
This week has two new pitchers who are under the radar that should be owned.
Starting Pitchers in Focus: Ian Kennedy
In his last four starts, he is 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA. During that span, he is holding opponents to a .240 batting average. On the year, he is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.24. Only owned in 37 percent of ESPN leagues, if Kennedy is available, any Fantasy owner should put in a claim right away.
Carlos Silva
Over his first nine games, Silva is a perfect 6-0 with an ERA of 3.52. He is 4-0 in May and will continue his success in Week Nine. With Silva only owned in 31 percent of ESPN leagues and 57 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues, Fantasy owners should grab him.
Position Players: Infielders
2B David Eckstein is having a great May. He is hitting .351 with six RBI, nine runs scored and an OPS of .880. On the year, he is hitting .310 with one home run, 12 RBI and four stolen bases. With Eckstein only owned in six percent of ESPN leagues and 19 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues, Fantasy owners looking for another middle infielder should consider adding him.
SS Ian Desmond is having a good start to his rookie campaign. On the year, he is hitting .261 with three home runs, 19 RBI and three stolen bases. Only owned in 11 percent of ESPN leagues and 45 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues, Desmond is a quality NL-only pickup.
After coming off the disabled list, 3B Edwin Encarnacion is having a great May. He has six home runs, 11 RBI and eight runs scored. His OPS in May is 1.613, and he is hitting .333. Currently only owned in 19 percent of ESPN leagues, Encarnacion is a must grab in mixed leagues for Week Nine.
Position Players: Outfielders
OF Cody Ross is finishing May off on a hot streak. He is hitting .358 with three home runs and 13 RBI. He has an OPS of 1.002 and has scored 12 runs. Ross is currently owned in 74 percent of ESPN leagues; Fantasy Owners looking for a No. 5 outfielder should pick him up for Week Nine.
After hitting only .194 in April, OF Luke Scott is excelling in May. He is hitting .354 with seven home runs and 13 RBI. He has scored 14 runs and has an OPS of 1.123. Only owned in 47 percent of ESPN leagues and 60 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues, Scott is a recommended pickup for Week Nine.
OF Angel Pagan has filled in admirably for OF Carlos
Beltran. He ended April hitting only .257, yet things have
changed in May. In 20 games, he has two home runs, 10 RBI and has stolen
three bases. He has scored 13 runs and is hitting .312. Only owned in
11 percent of ESPN leagues and 28 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues,
Pagan is a recommended pickup in mixed leagues.
