Fantasy Baseball's Week 10 Waiver Wire

ian desmond hit.jpgWeek Nine saw middle infielder Ian Desmond have a stellar week. He hit .278 with one home run and six RBI.

This week will focus on two outstanding young players, one being a pitcher and the other an outfielder, both of whom are dominating in the month of May and posting great Fantasy numbers. Both players are owned in less than 26 percent of ESPN leagues.

Finding out who they are leads to this week's waiver wire.

Starting Pitchers in Focus: Anibal Sanchez

In his last six starts, he is 4-0 with a 1.93 ERA. During that span, he is holding opponents to a .205 batting average. On the year, he is 5-2 with an ERA of 2.89. Putting his numbers into perspective, Sanchez has not allowed more than two earned runs in his last eight starts. Only owned in 26 percent of ESPN leagues, if Sanchez is available, any Fantasy owner should put in a claim right away.

Ervin Santana

After having a subpar April, Santana has started to turn around his inconsistencies. In five starts in May, Santana went 3-1 with an ERA of 2.78. In 35.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 34 hitters and only walked 11. Santana is owned in 61 percent of ESPN leagues; Fantasy owners looking for immediate help should consider adding the veteran.

Position Players: Infielders

3B Neil Walker is starting to see playing time at second base and should be eligible soon. In May, he is hitting .292 with two RBI and has an OPS of .778. On the year, he is hitting .321 and has an on-base percentage of .345. Over his last six games, Walker has four two-hit games and with his continued playing time is someone Fantasy owners should consider for Week 10.

2B-3B-SS Jeff Keppinger finished May on a hot streak. During the month, he hit .309 with 10 RBI and 11 runs scored. On the year, he is hitting .294 with no home runs, 18 RBI and 17 runs scored. Only owned in six percent of ESPN leagues and 20 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues, Keppinger is a quality NL-only pickup with potential to become a mixed league player in the near future.

After finishing April with one home run, 14 RBI and hitting .324, rookie 3B David Freese has continued his great play. In May, he had three home runs, 17 RBI and 16 runs scored. His OPS in May was .873, and he hit .311. Currently only owned in 63 percent of ESPN leagues, Freese is a must grab in mixed leagues for Week 10.

Position Players: Outfielders

OF Drew Stubbs struggled mightily in April and only hit .186 with one home run and seven RBI. However, Stubbs turned his season around in May. He hit .271 with five home runs and 18 RBI. He had an OPS of .843 and scored 12 runs. With Stubbs currently owned in 23 percent of ESPN leagues, Fantasy Owners looking for a No. 5 outfielder should pick him up for Week 10.

After hitting only .202 in April, OF Delmon Young is excelling in May. He hit .303 with two home runs and 16 RBI. He scored 10 runs and had an OPS of .828. Only owned in 19 percent of ESPN leagues and 41 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues, he is a recommended pickup for Week 10.

Since taking over as a starter on May 8, OF Andres Torres has been playing excellent. During that span, he is hitting .338 with two home runs and nine RBI and has stolen five bases. He has scored 15 runs and has an OPS of 1.000 for the month of May. Only owned in six percent of ESPN leagues and 23 percent of CBS Sportsline, he is a recommended pickup in mixed leagues.
