Why an 18-Game NFL Schedule Is a Terrible Idea

goodell.jpgOne of the ideas that is being thrown around to help solve the labor crisis in the NFL is expanding the NFL regular season schedule from 16 games to 18 games.

 

While that might be exciting at first glance (who would not want to watch two more meaningful games?), it is actually a terrible idea that the NFL needs to scrap right now.

 

Here are three reasons why staying with a 16-game schedule makes more sense than going to an 18-game schedule.

1) Injury / Health Concerns

You think injuries are a problem now? Just wait. Here is a list of significant players on 2009 postseason teams that did not play with their teams in January: Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin, Green Bay Packers CB Al Harris, GB Packers LB Aaron Kampman, Indianapolis Colts S Bob Sanders, Minnesota Vikings MLB E. J. Henderson, New England Patriots WR Wes Welker and New York Jets DT Kris Jenkins. I do not have room to list all the players, but you get the point...
