This week I'll continue with players I'm watching at least as much for next year as the rest of this one. Regular readers know that I advise using speculative roster spots on offense first, but if all the prospects you like have already been snapped up then go ahead and consider making room for one or two of these guys.
Henry Melton, Bears - Melton is a rookie out of Texas and may
still be a couple years away from steady work. However the Bears are in a
hurry for someone to step up opposite Julius Peppers. After running
thorough several uninspiring veterans, Melton has received some playing
time since the week 8 bye. With seven tackles and 1.5 sacks in that
time, he has exactly set the world on fire yet, but then you want to
grab guys like this before they start showing up on highlight reels.
The stats that caught my eye belong to Peppers more than Melton. Since Melton's increased role, Peppers has exploded for five sacks in the last three games. So finally Chicago put somebody on the field good enough to free up the IDP superstar to do his work.
