Brandon Lloyd: Fantasy Gold or Fool's Gold?

brandon lloyd TD.jpgWhen the 2010 fantasy predictions came out for wide receivers, there were a number of players that topped most lists. Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson is usually a good candidate to top any list and would have finished higher than ninth if he had not missed three games and been limited in others.

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald showed his talent by finishing 16th despite having to deal with horrific quarterback play.

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White is consistently among fantasy's elite performers and finished third among receivers in 2010.

None of those elite players finished higher than fantasy's top performer, Denver Broncos WR Brandon Lloyd. Lloyd had only 77 receptions but led the NFL with 1,448 receiving yards, had 11 receiving touchdowns (fourth) and averaged 18.8 yards per catch (fifth).

This is the same Lloyd who has played for four teams in eight NFL seasons. His previous best season was back in 2005, when he had 48 receptions for 733 yards and five touchdowns with the San Francisco 49ers. That gave him the 36th-ranked fantasy season among receivers. Since that season, he has finished 96th, 169th, 84th and 126th among fantasy receivers. To say that he was a long shot to be the top fantasy receiver in 2010 would be an understatement.

The question is can the soon to be 30-year-old receiver duplicate his career season? I think he is going to have a very tough time having the same success for a few reasons.
