Brett Favre Thinks Aaron Rodgers Won’t Stay With Green Bay Packers

After playing for the Green Bay Packers for 16 seasons, Super Bowl-winning quarterback Brett Favre was more or less forced out the door so the team could hand the keys to the offense to Aaron Rodgers.

Now 36-year-old Rodgers, who backed up Favre for three seasons and led the Packers to a win in Super Bowl XLV two years after taking over for him, is facing the prospect of eventually being forced out by rookie QB Jordan Love, who was selected in the first round of last week’s draft.

Asked for his thoughts on the matter on the Rich Eisen Show, Favre said Rodgers has “every right to feel disrespected” by the team taking Love and that he thinks the quarterback who replaced him will eventually follow in his footsteps by leaving Green Bay.

“I think he’ll play somewhere else,” the three-time MVP told Eisen. “My gut tells me, no. It’s kind of cool – it’s not uncommon to retire and unretire now. When I did it, it was a little bit out of the realm. Now, it’s fairly common, not just in football but in all sports. Tom Brady and myself and Joe Montana and Peyton Manning – just to name a few – finished their career elsewhere. In my case, I played for four different teams. So I think you’re going to see that trend more and more, and I think Aaron will finish somewhere else. That’s my gut.”

Favre does have a point about the era of the single-team franchise quarterback being dead. Earlier this month during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers said he fully intends to play out the four years that are left on his contract.

“I’ve got four years left on my deal,” Rodgers told McAfee. “I’d like to play four at a really, really high level, and if I feel like keep on keeping on from that point, to do it. I feel confident right now. I’m going to be 40 when the deal ends. I feel like I can keep going after that the way things have been going.”

Rodgers may indeed finish out his deal and maybe even get an extension to continue to play into his 40s. It just might not be with the Packers.
