News and notes -- week of 5/01

This week much of the MMA discussion centered around the follow-up of WEC 48:Aldo vs. Faber in which Jose Aldo officially laid claim to a top 10 position in the pound-for-pound rankings. He was just dominant.

Then there was Tito Ortiz and his domestic problems, but who really cares about that? Not me, that's for sure.

With all that going on, you may have missed some recent fight announcements and other news. So here is the most important stuff that you may have missed.

  • Thiago Alves and Jon Fitch had their rematch rescheduled for August 7th at UFC 117. It was originally set to go down on the UFC 111 card March 27th but Alves was a late scratch due to a brain irregularity. But he had minor surgery and is set to go for the rescheduled date. This will be one helluva fight.
  • UFC light heavyweight star prospect Jon Jones has been scheduled to fight Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC on Versus 2 on August 1. Kind of a head scratching matchup considering Jones' recent performance against Brandon Vera and with other light heavyweight fighters available like Thiago Silva.
    • UFC light heavweights Keith Jardine and Matt Hammill have been booked as headliners for the TUF season 11 finale in mid-June.
