Finally, the rematch UFC welterweight division fans have been waiting for is on the verge of taking place.
Thiago Alves and Jon Fitch have officially been scheduled to compete as co-headliners at UFC 117 set for August 7th in Oakland, California.
Alves and Fitch are unquestionably the top welterweights in the world not named Georges St.-Pierre and while the Canadian has already beaten both in devastating fashion and continues on his warpath through every able-bodied, non-previous challenger, the two will be fighting to position themselves for a possible rematch when GSP is done with Josh Koscheck near the tail end of this year.
After all, both fighters have proved over the course of the last few years that they are head and shoulders above their other 170 pound brethren. Fitch and Alves are perhaps the only two welterweights in GSP's league so while the UFC may not be so eager to promote the rematches for these two, it won't be able to deny them while Fitch and Alves do nothing but beat everyone that stands in their way.
