All Star Game 2004
There are many beautiful things a human being can witness in their lifetime, such as a beautiful sunset, a painting by one of the masters of the art world, for some the birth of a child, but as far as baseball goes for me nothing gives me more pleasure than to see Roger Clemens get pounded into oblivion in any game. Since it was the All-Star game and it was witnessed by not only baseball's best players, but by millions of viewers. Although I wanted the National League to win, I still thoroughly enjoyed watching Clemens get hammered.
OK I admit it, I did tune in, but not for the entire game. I was just having baseball withdrawal and figured this way I get to see at least 2 of the Mets.
I knew nothing would happen between Clemens & Piazza, the media was acting like one crossed-up sign and they would drop their gloves and equipment and charge eachother like they were engaging in a hockey fight. Of course you know Clemens will most likely blame his poor outing on Piazza, even though no one scored of Randy Johnson, and the other NL pitchers seemed to do OK only giving up 3 more runs after the 1st inning.
Clemens insists on being called "The Rocket" well that nickname took on new meaning last night, because the baseballs were "Rocketing" off of the American League hitter's bats.
I have a lot of disdain for Clemens, not only because of the beaning of Piazza during that infamous Interleague Series in 2000, not only because he threw the bat at Piazza in the 2000 World Series claiming he didn't know what it was-Yeah OK Roger, I think you're an idiot but are you really that dumb?
I just think the man has no class, and I don't care what he has accomplished in his long baseball career. What annoyed most about him is how he decided to retire last season, had the Yankees make a big deal over it. Not that I like the Yankees, but when one of their greats retire, they do it up right. They had a whole ceremony for him, and George Steinbrenner presented him with a Hummer as a retirement gift.
Now the classy thing to do would be to at least offer to give the Hummer back, along with whatever else he got for reitring. I just don't like the man, to me he is just an arrogant, classless bum who can throw the ball great. When I think of classy basbeall players I think of guys like Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Duke Snyder, Willie Mays, Tom Seaver, Sandy Kofax, Nolan Ryan, Gary Carter, Mark McGwire.........etc. Not this egotist who insists that his teamates call him "Rocket" and who has to practice his meanest looking scowl a day before he is due to pitch.
I heard I think one of the Met announcers talking about how no one can talk to Clemens even the day before he pitches and how he has to put on his "game face" and keep it on a day before the game when the Mets were playing Houston.
GIVE ME A BREAK.
True he will be a Hall of Famer, but as a human being I think he belongs in the Hall of Shame, and to watch him have the daylights beat out of him in only one inning filled me with sheer delight. I'm sorry to say because of his poor performance he cost the National League home field advantage in the World Series, and now I am convinced that the Mets will probably get there (OK so I'm very optimistic)-now let that be on his head.
