Inside Mr. Met's Head

Home Run Derby Lifts Pedro Mets 7 - Brewers 5

Pedro Martinez despite giving up 5 runs on 3 hits struck out 11 Brewers tonight, but the Mets had a few of their own and an unlikely hero in Doug Mienkiewicz won the game with his 5th home run of the season.

I was surprised to see Mike Piazza catching Martinez, but I guess the team wanted to put to rest those personal catcher rumors. That and I guess Willie Randolph decided that sitting Cliff Floyd at the height of his hitting streak cooled him off considerably-Floyd went o for 4 tonight. I figure Randolph didn't want to do the same to Piazza after the tear he was on for 3 or 4 days, however Piazza went o for 4 tonight as well.

Never mind personal catcher for Martinez, how about personal home run hitters? Carlos Beltran hit two home runs tonight and had a bunt single. All of Beltran's homers have come in Pedro Martinez starts so far.

David Wright also had another home run in tonight's game.

After Beltran hit the second homer with Mike Cameron aboard to break a 3-3 tie, Lyle Overbay the Brewers first baseman hit one with Carlos Lee aboard who had walked to knot the game in a 5-5 tie.

In the top of the 8th Doug Mienkiewcz hit a solo homer giving the Mets the lead, and in the top of the 9th thanks to some Brewer errors which allowed Mike Cameron to reach, he scored on a wild pitch by former Met Ricky Bottalico giving the Mets a 7-5 lead.

Mike DeJean and Roberto pitched a scoreless 8th & 9th inning giving the Mets their 4th consecutive win.

Brace yourselves Tom GHASTLY (Glavine) faces Chris Capuano tomorrow. Don't expect too much, I feel about Glavine the way I used to feel when Aaron Heilman started in the past. I'm writing tomorrows game off, unless a miracle happens to Glavine.
