Mets Fans Answer
Hey all,
I wanted to know everyone's take on supporting your players 'till the very end or booing from the first botched play.
I will start off with mine. I love my team. No matter who is on it. While I do have a preference of specific players..or former...*cough Jacobs cough*, I support my team. Be it a team with errors waiting to happen or legit stars, I will NEVER boo any player wearing the uniform of my team.
In more ways than 1, it hurts your team. First of all, the amount of pressure that is put on these players, is from fans. Not the media. Fans make or break the place. Look at the Florida market..there are hardly any fans there no matter what time of year it is. Most fans are either Mets or Yankee fans as they tend to be New Yorkers who move down there due to cheaper housing opportunities and lovely weather.
The Braves are the perfect example.. As dominant as they have been over the years, they hardly sell out. Come playoff time, could you imagine what they would be like if they had a huge crowd backing them 100% ? They would have tons of championships right about now.
The importance of the fan is overlooked. Especially by the fans themselves. Home field advantage means nothing to our team if we fans boo our own players. Regardless of what the players make and if they are deserving of it or not, we should be supporting our team's players through thick and thin.
Fans have a right to state their opinion, but when it comes down to it, booing does absolutely nothing for the team to win. Yes, it lets the team know that some play is unacceptable, but it also causes unnecessary pressure for your own team, thus making it even harder to succeed and more likely to make errors due to lack of focus.
What is your take on this?
