Inside Mr. Met's Head

SWEEP!!!!!!!!! Mets 7 - Padres 3

I apologize for the very tardy post on this one, my home computer went on the fritz again, hopefully I'll be able to post this weekend if Dan The Man can make some adjustments to get it up and running again. You didn't think I'd have nothing to say on the Mets first home sweep did you?

It seems that once El Duque gets out of the first inning he's lights out lately, yesterday afternoon he helped the Mets to their 5th straight win.

I decided to tivo the game yesterday and watched it like I was watching it live. I avoided every possible avenue that may have given me a score. I didn't watch game day, I told my buddy "Philly" Fred to keep the score to himself all day long, since I share office space with him. I didn't listen to WFAN on my ride home, and I didn't listen during my workout. It was the first game I was going to be able to watch uninterrupted since my husband Dan returned to work after being out with a broken thumb.

I finally settled in to watch the game around 8 pm all excited, and I see that Willie Randolph stocked his line up with all SCRUBS. I was crazed with doubt and anger. The outfield consisted of Ricky Ledee, Michale Tucker and Endy Chavez which I didn't mind. Mike DiFelice a career minor league 37 year old catcher. The only big bats left were David Wright, Carlos Delgado and Jose Valentin. At least Reyes is there I thought to myself. I was yelling at the TV at Willie- "WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS WHEN YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO SWEEP AT HOME FINALLY!!!!"

Like everything else I had doubted about Randolph-like batting LoDuca second, keeping Wright hitting 5th, keeping Valentin around in April-I was wrong once again.

After El Duque gave up a 2 run home run in the first inning, the Mets scrambled to get the runs back. The went up 3-2, and stayed ahead until the 7th inning. Even the scrubs chimed in with the win. Micheal Tucker in his Mets debut had an outfield assist and an RBI double. Ricky Ledee got a hit. Mike DiFelice walked a couple of times and score. Endy Chavez once again got an RBI, David Wright drove in 2, Valentin drove in 2, and Reyes had a 2 run triple. The Mets pounded out a 4 run 7th inning.

El Duque went 7 innings, Aaron Heilman came on in the 8th and was flawless, Pedro Feliciano closed it out. I never thought they would win with this line up. I couldn't believe it. I guess good things come to those who wait, and I was glad I steered clear of the score all day long to enjoy this.

Tonight Tom Glavine who has been shaky since the all-star break takes on the Washington Nationals.
