Another Pesky Lefty Mets 3 - Marlins 6
OK so it wasn't just ANY lefty tonight, it was Dontrelle Willis who not only pitched into the 9th inning, he hit 2 home runs and had an RBI single.
It was a 1-0 game until the 6th, and Oliver Perez looked very good again tonight. He held the Marlins scoreless until the home run by Willis, then a misplayed ball by Lastings Milledge in left field led to more damage and the Mets found themselves down 4-2 after Chad Bradford got done, giving up 2 rare runs.
Pedro Feleciano came in to bail him out, but then Roberto Hernandez gave up another run, before we knew it it was a 6-3 game.
The Met runs came on an RBI ground out by Carlos Delgado, and RBI by Paul LoDuca who had 3 hits in the game, and an RBI ground out by Jose Valentin.
The Mets almost mounted a comeback in the bottom of the 9th with 3 walks, but Jose Reyes flew out to left field to end the game.
It was nice to see Perez have a decent game again. I'm sure we will see him again. He had 5 striekouts on the night, the Marlins seemed more patient with him - taking more pitches than I have seen other teams do-thats why he wasn't in double digits in strikeouts tonight, but he still did fine in my book
Once again though a left handed pitcherhad strangled the Mets offense-hopefully they will find a way to overcome this for October.
All eyes will be on Pedro Martinez who will make his second start since his emotional outing last week where he lasted only 4 innings.
