Inside Mr. Met's Head

October 11, 2006 8:30 AM

Lets Just Sit Back and Enjoy This

I love nothing more than a good old fashioned Mets- Cards game that is meaningful. This goes back to the mid 1980s for me, where I had just as much hatred for Andy Van Slyke and John Tudor back then as I do for Marcus Giles and John Smoltz and the rest of the Braves today.

The Cardinals have been in the NLCS for three straight years now, they are a good team although they seemed to fall off towards the end just like the Mets and the Tigers did. They are throwing Jeff Weaver tonight, who in his own way is the St Louis version of Steve Trachsel. He is a Jeckyl and Hyde type pitcher. He can be brilliant or atrocious. Hopefully he will be atrocious and the Met offense will light him up like the Christmas Tree in Rockerfeller Center tonight and get off to a good start in game one.

Tom Glavine is pitching tonight and as it looks now, Maine will pitch the second game and Trachsel the third-possibly Perez will pitch the fourth.

We will see how Willie Randolph will match up against Micro managing Tony LaRusa-the guy we have to thank for these middle inning "specialists" and the demise of the complete game. I have been very critical of Willie in the past, especially last season, but all in all I feel he's done a great job.

I am just looking forward to kicking back, staying up late if need be and enjoying the post season for once. I have no huge expectations, only the belief that it is possible that they can win and advance to the World Series, and if not-for me that's OK too. It's been a great season and something to be proud of.

Be sure to tune in to highheatradio.com tonight at 6:40pm, I will be appearing on there to talk about the NLCS.
