Mets Fall In Extra Innings Mets 2 - Phillies 4
Well this will be my last candy bet with Philly Fred, I left my regular job and Wednesday is my last day. Tom Glavine benfited from 2 early runs but gave them right back after getting 2 outs. he surrendered a bunch of consecutive hits allowing the Phillies to tie the game.
Lets face it, Glavine will always give up those dink & dunk type hits, but he may give up 2 or 3 runs a game but heĀ certainly pitches well enough to keep the team in it for 6 innings. Then it's the bull pen's game to win or lose.
The Mets threatened in the 5th inning, with Glavine getting his 2nd hot of the game - BeltranĀ who wasback in there after his collision with Rich Auerillia of the Giants popped out, and Delgado followed with his own pop out to strand the runners. The Phillies threatened in the top of the 6th but a bizarre base running gaffe by Pat Burrell caused the inning to come to a halt- I was thinking this couldbe the turning point of the game for both teams, and shine favorably on the Mets. That was just ridiculous and had to put out the fire the Phillies had going-what a momentum killer- a bone head base running play.
David Wright was robbed of an extra base hit by Shane Victorino to start the 7th followed bya Paul LoDuca single, but they still came up empty against soft tossing Jamie Moyer. Glavine had an easy 7th inning, despite a 2 out hit for Jimmy Rollins-he was caught stealing for the third out.
I was not happy to see Scott Schoene-WASTE warming up to pitch the 8th inning. Jose Reyes got on base with a single with one out in the bottom of the 7th. Reyes stole 2nd and Easley walked. Reyes was picked off by Jamie Moyer with Beltran at the plate who flied out.
Schoene-WASTE got through the 8th despite giving up a walk, and Billy Wagner pitched the 9th after the Mets could do nothing to score in their half of the inning.
They went to extra innings, and David Wright singled and stole 2nd-Paul LoDuca popped out and we went to the 11th inning.
