Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, both founding members of the Beach Boys, took to social media on Monday to assure fans that they have nothing to do with the group’s upcoming performance at a trophy-hunting convention where Donald Trump, Jr. is slated to deliver the keynote address.
Mike Love holds the legal rights to the Beach Boys name, and his touring band — which does not include Wilson or Jardine — is the one scheduled to perform at the Safari Club International Convention in Reno on Feb. 5.

“This organization supports trophy hunting, which both Al and I are emphatically opposed to,” Wilson tweeted on Monday. “There’s nothing we can do personally to stop the show, so please join us in signing the petition.”
The Change.org petition, which asks, “Wouldn’t it be nice if all the Beach Boys stayed away from those who kill for fun?”, has amassed over 60,000 signatures so far.
“We the undersigned pledge to stop buying or downloading all Beach Boys music, going to Beach Boys concerts, and purchasing any Beach Boys merchandise until the Beach Boys withdraw from the SCI Convention and publicly state their opposition to this sick ‘sport’ of killing animals for ‘fun,’” the petition reads.
