Let’s be honest: at the start of the 2910 MLB season, after Bryce Harper left for a rich contract with Philadelphia, nobody thought the Washington Nationals would be here. Heck, a few weeks ago nobody thought they’d be here.

And yet, here they are. The World Series champions. They beat the Houston Astros six to two in Houston in a Fall Classic that really should be considered one for the ages. Seven games that saw the Nationals shock the heavily favorite Astors by taking the first two games on the road, only to drop the next three at home and come back to win the last two at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Stephen Strasburg took home the MVP trophy.

“It’s just surreal,” Strasburg told Fox after the game. “To be able to do it with these group of guys is something special. … I love every one of those guys. It took all of us to do it.”

As David Schoenfield at ESPN pointed out, the seventh inning of the game will go down in history as one of the most improbable stretch of baseball certainly in Washington Nationals history. Howie Kendrick’s two-run homer off the foul pole in right gave the Nationals a 3-2 lead. It served as the catalyst for things to come. A shocking underdog story for the ages. The wild card team going up against a team that were a lock according to oddsmakers.

But in the end, the team nobody believed in proved once again why there is nothing quite as thrilling and perfect as October baseball.
