Player To Watch: QB Keith Price

When Washington (7-5) plays Baylor(9-3) in the Alamo Bowl tonight a lot of attention will be on Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin. UW QB Keith Price had an outstanding season and he is very capable of having a great performance in tonight's Alamo Bowl. Price completed 67.4% of his passes threw 29 TD's, and passed for 2,625 yards. Price is only a Sophomore and in 2012 he will be one of the best QB's in the Pac-12. Head Coach Steve Sarkisian has the Huskies headed in the right direction. This is the 2nd straight Bowl game for Washington. Last year the Huskies defeated Nebraska 19-7 in the Holiday Bowl.

Mike Leach Becomes The Cougars New Coach

<Thumbnail image for pac-12_logo.jpg

Mike Leach has accepted the position to become the next head coach of the Washington State Cougars. In ten seasons Leach took Texas Tech to ten bowl games and the Red Raiders had 84 victories. Mike Leach had an offense at Texas Tech that led the Nation in passing six times. Leach will bring a dynamic passing offense to the Cougars and in time Washington State will be a team in the Pac-12 that other programs will not want to face. There is some offensive talent on the roster for Leach to work with in the 2012 season. The Cougars have two quality QB's in Jeff Tuel and Connor Halliday. Next season Halliday will be a Sophomore and this year Connor threw 9 TD's for 961 yards and had a QB rating of 156.7 . Freshmen RB Ricky Galvin averaged 5.3 YPC, rushed for 602 yards, caught 28 balls and finished the year with 6 TD's. WR Marcus Wilson was named to the All Pac-12 2nd team. Wilson finished the year with 82 catches, 1,388 yards and 12 TD's. Washington State has not been to a bowl since they defeated the Texas Longhorns 28-20 in the Holiday Bowl in 2003. When Mike Leach gets his offense the way he wants it Washington State will be going to bowl games on a yearly basis.

Trojans Stun Ducks

The Trojans with their 38-35 win over the Ducks proved to the rest of college football that they will be a force in 2012. Robert Woods is one of the best receivers in the nation, but the Trojans got a great performance from WR Marqise Lee. Lee finished the game with 8 receptions for 187 yards and 1 TD. QB Matt Barkley was very solid in this game completing 26/34 passes for 323 yards and 4 TD's. USC will finish the year with a home game against their cross-town rival UCLA and a Trojan victory will keep the Bruins from going to the Pac-12 Championship game.

The Ducks Speed Was On Display Vs. Stanford

Oregon defeated Stanford 53-30. Speed was the difference in the game. WR Josh Huff had a 59-yard catch. RB LaMichael James had a 58-yard run and RB/WR De'Anthony Thomas had a 41-yard reception. The Ducks showed the ability to have big plays throughout the whole game. The longest play by a Stanford receiver was a 28-yard catch by TE Coby Fleener.

UCLA Upsets The Sun Devils

The Bruins defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils 29-28 and now find themselves in first place in the Pac-12 South. UCLA has games remaining against Utah, Colorado and USC. The Bruins have a 5-4 record and need one more victory to become Bowl eligible. If UCLA wants to qualify for the Pac-12 Championship they need to either run the table or go 2-1 and hope that ASU drops one of their last three games. The Sun Devils still have to play Washington State, Arizona and California.

Trojans And Cardinal Collide

The USC Trojans vs. the Stanford Cardinal game on Saturday will have a big effect on both of these programs. Stanford is currently #6 in the BCS Standings with Clemson, Boise State, Oklahoma State, Alabama and LSU ahead of them. The Cardinal must win their upcoming games against USC, Oregon and Notre Dame in order to move up in the BCS Standings. The Trojans are 6-1 and will be tested against Stanford, Washington and Oregon in their remaining games. If USC can finish the season strong it will give the program tremendous momentum for the 2012 season when they will be eligible for a Bowl game.

Are Keith Price And UW Ready For Prime Time?

The 5-1 Washington Huskies will take on the #8 Stanford Cardinal tonight. This game will feature two of the best QB's in the Pac-12 in Andrew Luck and Keith Price. The Washington Huskies might be a year away from reaching their full potential as one of the best teams in the Pac-12. Games against Nebraska earlier this year and tonight's game at Stanford will prepare the Huskies when they play at LSU on September 8th, 2012. This season has been a breakout year for Keith Price. Price is completing 69.4% of his passes and has thrown 21 touchdowns and only four interceptions. UW also has one of the best RB's in the country in Chris Polk (728 yards rushing). One of Keith's favorite targets on the outside is WR Jermaine Kearse. Kearse has 23 receptions and 6 TD's. Washington has the 7th ranked defense in the Pac-12 and that will be a problem against Andrew Luck. Steve Sarkisian has the Huskies going in the right direction and Washington will be competitive against the Cardinal.

UCLA Heading Towards A Bowl Game?

The Bruins are under a tremendous amount of pressure. There are questions about Rick Neuheisel returning to UCLA next season. The fans have not been happy with the play of the QB's or the direction of the offense. With all the dysfunction surrounding the program UCLA still came into the game against Washington State expecting a victory.

Sun Devils Make A Statement

Last week ASU dropped a close game 17-14 to Illinois. Tonight the Sun Devils beat a more talented USC team convincingly breaking an eleven game losing streak to the Trojans. The Sun Devils 43-22 win will grab the attention of the entire Conference. RB Cameron Marshall finished with 26 carries for 142 yards and 3 TD's. Osweiler had a solid game completing 24/31 passes for 211 yards, two TD's and no interceptions. Going forward ASU has to become a team that shows up every week and plays smart football if they expect to make it to the Pac-12 Championship. Next week the Sun Devils get Oregon State at home and they cannot afford to take the Beavers lightly after a dominant win over the Trojans. It looks like the Pac-12 South will come down to Arizona State and Utah. They will meet on October 8th in Salt Lake City, Utah. That game could determine the winner of the Pac-12 South.
