Civil War RB Analysis

The RB's for Oregon and OSU will be a big factor in deciding which team will be victorious and help qualify their team for the Rose Bowl. Last season when these two teams met the Beavers did not have Jacquizz Rodgers and the Ducks LeGarrette Blount rushed 17 times for 112 yards and 1 TD. The Ducks finished that game with 385 rushing yards and the Beavers were held to 89 yards on the ground. Not having Jacquizz was a big reason why OSU lost 65-38. The Civil War on December 3rd at Autzen Stadium will feature two of the Pac Ten's best RB's in LaMichael James and Quizz Rodgers.

Rodgers is second in the Pac Ten with 1,313 yards rushing and James is third in the conference with 1,310 yards rushing. Rodgers is averaging 5.5 YPC and he has rushed for 19 TD's. LaMichael James has 11 TD's and is averaging 6.9 YPC. Rodgers is a better overall RB. OSU's Mike Riley has made it a priority to get the ball in Rodgers hands as much as possible and has included him in the Beavers passing attack. Jaquizz is second in the Pac Ten with 67 receptions. Against UNLV Rodgers had 26 carries for 166 yards and 10 catches for 65 yards. It will be very difficult for the Ducks to contain Rodgers, because he can beat them with his hands and his feet.

The Beavers have the #1 rated defense in the conference against the run. OSU held Stanford's Toby Gerhart to 96 yards. It could be a tough day for LaMichael James. The Beavers plan should be to stop the run and force QB Jeremiah Masoli to throw the ball. Even if OSU can contain James they still have to stop Masoli from gaining yards on the ground. The RB's on both sides are very talented and should provide a lot of big plays in a game that has a Rose Bowl berth on the line.
