Arizona State got by their in state rival Arizona Wildcats 73-69. The Sun Devils are now 1/2 a game behind the 1st place California Golden Bears. ASU will meet the Bears next week for what could be for 1st place or at least a tie for 1st place in the Pac Ten. In The Sun Devils victory over the Wildcats ASU went 11/20 from three-point land. Guard Ty Abbott went 5/8 from three and finished the game with 28 points. Arizona could not find a way to defend ASU from behind the arc and that was the main reason ASU prevailed in this game. This was a bad loss for the Wildcats, because if Arizona would have won they could have been a game behind California and would have had the opportunity to pull into a tie with the Bears by beating them on February 25th. Now the Wildcats head into that game two games behind the Bears.
When ASU meets Cal next Saturday the key to that game will be which team is able to defend the three point shot the best or it could come down to which team is not having a good day from behind the arc. Next Saturday's game will put either Cal or ASU in the drivers seat for 1st place in the Pac Ten Conference.
