UW Back In Business

pac10-08-icon-wash.gifThe University of Washington started the season ranked #14 in the AP. By week nine of the College Basketball season Washington was not ranked and just a few weeks ago the Huskies were in the middle of the pack in the Pac Ten Conference. After sweeping the Arizona schools this week UW is now in 2nd place and in a great position to be in first place in the Pac Ten by the end of next week. Washington plays at California on February 11th and a victory will put the Huskies in a tie for first place with the Bears.

There are only seven games remaining on the Pac Ten schedule and going 0-2 in any of the remaining weeks could put a team at a big disadvantage. Last week it appeared as if Arizona had all the momentum after defeating the Bears, but the Wildcats only stayed in first place for one week. Washington will have an opportunity to make a big statement when they face California on Thursday. With the Pac Ten not as strong as it has been the last few years the only way to the NCAA Tournament that is a 100% lock is to win the Conference or win the Pac Ten Tournament. Pressure will be at an all time high for the last few weeks of the season. It will be interesting to see if two teams can separate themselves from the rest of the conference.
