Toby Gerhart's Draft Prospects

At 6-1 237 Gehart proved in his career at Stanford that he could punish opposing defenses with his power. Last season Toby carried the ball 25 times or more in seven games. Against the Ducks he had 39 carries for 223 yards and 3 TD's. There is no question that Gerhart is a durable RB. What most NFL GM's worried about was his speed and how that would translate to the NFL. Toby put those concerns to rest when he ran a 4.53 (40) at the 2010 NFL Combine. Gerhart does not have blazing speed, but he is fast enough to break 20-yard runs in the NFL.

Gerhart would fit best with a team that is lacking a running game or a team that only has a speed back. The Browns, Texans and 49ers are teams that need a RB. The Browns can't afford to go into next season with Jerome Harrison as their only experienced RB. The Texans did not have a 1,000 yard back in 2009 and the organization might be looking to replace Steve Slaton as their feature back. The 49ERS have to find a solid RB in case Frank Gore gets injured or they could feel that Gore is not as effective as he was a few seasons ago. Gore has not played in 16 games since 2006. The Patriots could also benefit from Gerhart's skills. Look for Toby to be drafted in the 2nd round.
