Owusu/Whalen Form An Explosive Combination

One of the things that stick out about the 2010 Stanford Cardinal is that they no longer have Toby Gerhart and QB Andrew Luck is one of the best young QB's in the country. Coach Harbaugh will rely on Stepfan Taylor at the RB position this year. In 2009 Taylor only had 56 rushing attempts and averaged 5.4 YPC. Gerhart was so dominant on the ground last season that Luck only attempted 288 passes in 2009 and that was the least amount of attempts by a QB that started the entire season in the Pac Ten. With Luck throwing the ball more this season Owusu and Whalen will have the opportunity to make a lot of plays.

Chris Owusu is the best kick returner in the country. In 2009 Owusu averaged 31.5 yards per return and ran back 3 TD's. Chris also averaged 18.4 yards per catch. Ryan Whalen is third in receptions among returning WR's in the conference with 57 catches. If the running game is not able to churn out as many yards as they did in 2009 then the production of Luck, Owusu and Whalen will account for the majority of the Cardinal's offense in 2010. After a scrimmage against Sacramento State in Week one the Stanford Cardinal's passing game has to be ready for their Week two and three opponents when they face UCLA and Wake Forest.
