AFC East Preview
The Green Bay Packers play the AFC East in 2010, and they had better be prepared. In my opinion, this is the toughest division in football rather than the NFC East, which has three unknown quantities and one contender. In fact, it mirrors the NFC North, the next best if Brett Favre does come back, in that there are two teams that can contend for the division title and a third that will be in the hunt for the wild card. Somehow, the Packers drew each of the top two teams on the road, so it has a look of 2-2.
Here is how I see the division playing out:
Here is how I see the division playing out:
The New York Jets will be the best team in the NFL if a deal gets done with Derrell Revis; it will because of his importance and chance to win a title. He is already the best cover corner in the game, and they now have another bonafide ace in Antonio Cromartie as well as a capable second corner playing the nickel in rookie Kyle Wilson. Thus, the team that reached the AFC Championship Game on the strength of the league's best pass defense has just gotten better at all three levels, the rookie quarterback should be better--especially with the receiving help added--and they lost nothing by letting Thomas Jones go in favour of Ladanian Tomlinson.- The New England Patriots' days of running this division are over, but that does not mean they are not a great team. By all accounts, Wes Welker will be back for the start of the season, giving one of the best quarterbacks of all-time one of the best receiving corps in the game to work with. The defense has needed a makeover, but is not the old, slow unit of the last couple years anymore.
- The Miami Dolphins are a very good team that could make the playoffs in about half the divisions in football, but in this one, they will be lucky to have a winning season. A great running game is now complimented by a capable passing attack, and the defense seems to be good no matter who is on it, though they may feel the loss of Jason Taylor and maybe even Joey Porter a little this year.
- The Buffalo Bills actually have a pretty good defense and can run the football, which might be good enough for them to avoid double-digit losses in most divisions. In this one, they may not win five games, as teams will be able to tee off on whomever is under center by the fourth quarter.
