No Magic from These Wizards

Gasol goin in vs Wizards.jpgThe Wizards came out with the intensity many teams do when they're facing the defending champions. But like most teams they couldn't keep it up. The Wizards began the game hitting 10 of their first 15 shots and held an early six-point lead. But the Lakers ended the first on a 14-7 run to take a one-point lead and continued that momentum into the second. They outscored the Wizards 30-15 to take a 60-44 halftime lead and cruised through the second half. The Lakers beat the Wizards 115-103.

In the first quarter the Lakers played sloppy. They had a few careless turnovers and gave the Wizards easy shots. The second quarter though, they picked up the defensive intensity and forced the Wizards into seven turnovers to break the game open.

In the second half the Wizards cut into the lead a few times but could never get it much below single digits. The Lakers always answered to extend the lead to around 15.

I usually write longer recaps but there's no point with this game. The Wizards are not only bad, but they're boring too. They're the most boring team I've seen all year. Earl Boykins is fun to watch because he's so small and Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison have their moments but that's it. And most likely Butler or Jamison (possibly both) won't be with them much longer. This team needs to be blown up.

Game Notes
-I mentioned this after the Raptors game but Kobe Bryant is looking better. He's driving to the basket and that is opening up his shot a bit more and getting him to the free throw line. He was a very efficient eight for 15 for 26 points and also had eight assists.
-They went to Pau Gasol a lot in the first half to open up this game. Gasol hit 10 of 15 for 26 points and grabbed 10 boards.
-The Lakers got production from their bench for a change. They outscored the Wizards reserves 38-21. Lamar Odom hit seven of 10 for 15 points and Shannon Brown added 11 including three dunks. Might as well prepare for the dunk contest against the Wizards.
